Happy New Year!
As we inch closer to the big countdown, only one question remains: where’s the party? For a wintry resort-setting celebration, Whistler’s First Night New Year’s Eve festivities focus on family with live music, art workshops, street entertainment and more. In the Kootenay Rockies, say farewell to 2009 within the snowy splendour of Emerald Lake Lodge. Nestled in Yoho National Park near Field, guests will ring in the New Year with a delectable multi-course menu, cool jazz beats courtesy of the Swinging Bovines, one night’s accommodation and a tasty New Year’s Day brunch. Also in the Rockies, Kicking Horse Mountain Resort has plans to turn the big night into a Plaza Party: witness ski and snowboard tricks during the evening’s big air jam, feel the heat during a kids glowstick dance party, ring in another year in one of the many mountain eateries, and watch in wonder during the Torch Light Parade and fireworks finale. In the Thompson Okanagan, the party kicks off at Silver Star Mountain Resort with a Torchlight Parade, bonfires, fireworks and a host of festivities throughout village hotspots including the Den, The Saloon, the Bulldog and Long John’s Pub. Little ones light up the night at nearby Sun Peaks Resort with a Glowstick Parade, followed by First Flight – a demonstration of slopestyle acrobatics complete with spotlights and a DJ. The Torchlight Descent down Sundance Mountain followed by fireworks is sure to see the New Year in with a bang. www.whistlerfirstnight.com; www.crmr.com/emerald-lake-lodge.php; www.kickinghorseresort.com; www.skisilverstar.com; www.sunpeaksresort.com
